CC Cadence

Chat with Claude and any Anthropic-compatible model, right inside VS Code.

Download .vsix Source on GitHub — soon Release notes

An in-editor chat panel that drives your local claude CLI on your Max subscription — and any Anthropic-compatible model — with sessions, attachments, @-mentions and live background tasks.

CC Cadence puts a chat panel in your editor and drives the local claude CLI — so the built-in profile runs on your own /login Claude Max subscription, with no API key involved. Add more profiles that point at any Anthropic-compatible endpoint and every model gets the same tools: reading and writing files, running commands, subagents.

Features

  • Many profiles, one panel. Switch provider, model (Default / Opus / Sonnet / Haiku / Fable) and effort level from a single pill in the composer. Same vendor resumes the session.
  • Session history. Conversations are stored by the CLI itself — search, resume or delete them from the history drop-down.
  • Attachments. Paste a screenshot, drag files onto the composer, or pick them from disk. Images go to the model directly; other files are staged and passed as paths.
  • @-mentions. Type @ to fuzzy-search files and folders in the workspace.
  • Background tasks. Background subagents and shells show up as live task cards, and the conversation wakes itself back up when they finish.
  • Interrupt-and-replace. Send while the model is still running and your latest message wins.
  • Editor tabs. Open CC Cadence as a full editor tab beside your files, as many as you like.
  • Extra Claude Code parameters. Inject environment variables and settings keys (effortLevel, context window, timeouts) without touching your global config.
  • Doctor. One command that explains why a model switch didn’t take effect.

Getting started

  1. Install the .vsix (below), then log in once: run claude in a terminal and /login.
  2. Click the CC Cadence icon in the activity bar, or run CC Cadence: Open CC Cadence in Editor.
  3. Type and press Enter. Switch model and permission mode from the pills under the composer.

Privacy

The extension never reads, stores or forwards your Claude tokens. Third-party API keys live in your OS keychain, never in settings files.

CC Cadence opens in bypassPermissions mode, so tools never ask before running. Only use it in workspaces you trust.

  1. v0.0.15

    Multi-session editor tabs

    • Every editor tab is its own chat. Open as many CC Cadence tabs as you like — each has its own transcript, session and running turn. Model, effort and profile stay shared across the app.
    • Per-tab permission mode. Run one tab in plan and another in bypassPermissions.
    • Session History button in the editor title bar.
    • Thinking blocks. Reasoning renders as an expandable section; redacted thinking shows a token estimate instead of an empty expander.
    • Better @-mentions. Picking a mention replaces only the typed query, folders insert @dir/ and re-query inside it, and a new @ toolbar button opens the picker at the caret.
    • Refreshed logo: a solid tech-blue disc with dark cadence bars.
  2. v0.0.11

    Popup fix

    • Fixed the model/mode popup that could not be closed: an #id display rule beat the browser’s [hidden] rule. Added an explicit [hidden] guard, scrollable popups and a CSS regression test.
  3. v0.0.10

    Editor tab beside your files

    • Open in Editor now opens CC Cadence in its own locked editor group, split beside your files.
  4. v0.0.9

    Hello, CC Cadence

    • Renamed to CC Cadence with the tech-blue cadence-bars logo.
    • New editor-tab mode with a colored tab icon.
  5. v0.0.8

Editor title button and calmer stops

    • Editor title-bar button to open the chat.
    • Direct file picker for attachments.
    • Clicking outside a popup closes it.
    • Stopping a run shows a calm info notice instead of a red error.
  6. v0.0.5

    UI polish

    • Your messages are right-aligned bubbles.
    • Permission mode moved into a popup menu.
    • Tooltip on the upload button; dropped the status bar item.
  7. v0.0.4

    Activity bar icon fix

    • Flat, mask-safe activity bar icon that renders correctly in every theme.
    • Background agents pill with an agent-map popup.
  8. v0.0.3

    Hardening pass

    • Attachments directory is created on demand; oversized pastes are rejected.
    • Guard against send races, drop double-attach and staging-name collisions.
    • Array-content user messages replay correctly from history.
  9. v0.0.2

    First usable release

    • Chat panel driven by claude -p with stream-json input and output.
    • Session history picker backed by the CLI’s own session storage.
    • Attachments (paste, drag-and-drop, picker) and @-mentions.
    • Interrupt-and-replace sending: your latest message always wins.
    • Live task cards for background subagents and shells.
    • claudeEnv and claudeSettings for extra Claude Code parameters.
